Safety Is Our Top Priority at Water Source Plumbing

At Water Source Plumbing Service, Inc. we always make safety our first priority. Safety for our employees as well as the safety of our customers.
We want to make you aware of some safety regulations put in place this year regarding the Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority Confined Space Entry Policy. Basically, the safety requirements for equipment that must be used while entering confined spaces. These are new requirements to the County but not to us at Water Source. We have been using these safety practices for many, many years.
Confined Space entry is usually only due to their is no other available access. Many times there have been only one way in or out to these areas. Enclosed Spaces include; tunnels, crawl spaces, open vaults, and sewers.
Now all access to these areas that have one or more characteristics of the following will require permits as per the CCWSA Confined Space Entry Policy.
  • Contains or has a potential to contain hazardous atmosphere
  • Contains a material that has a potential of engulfing an entrant (i.e. water or sand).
  • Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor that slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section
  • Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazards (i.e. wind, insecure footing, electrical).
Permits are a way to account for work done on property that also tell the County who you are, whose property, what work you are doing, and that you are a licensed company with the State of Georgia.
Our employees are properly trained and are able to use our attendants on site as entry supervisors for the technicians. By having entry supervisors we are able to keep the technician focused on the job at hand while having someone look out for any risks in the area.
Dangers from working in confined spaces are real. Some of the risks include; toxic and flammable gases, oxygen deficiency, impairment to self rescue (in which our attendant can use his equipment to pull the individual to safety), and even death could occur.
At each job site we test and monitor the area in which work is to be performed in. The process checks oxygen levels and checks for the presence of gases and vapors that are dangerous to breathe or come in contact with.
If one of our employees loses consciousness or is unable to remove themselves from the job site we are able to use a retrieval system that includes a retrieval line attached to the full body harness they would be wearing.
